Blackline Safety Honoured with Calgary Award for Social Impact

June 24, 2025 by Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Calgary-based Blackline Safety has been awarded the 2025 Calgary Award for Social Impact – Business, one of the city’s highest honours recognizing outstanding contributions to the community.

Presented annually by the City of Calgary, the award celebrates companies that demonstrate a clear and lasting commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities. Blackline Safety, a global leader in connected safety technology, was recognized for its two-decade dedication to both innovation and social responsibility.

“We’re incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said Cody Slater, CEO and Chair of Blackline Safety. “Calgary is more than our headquarters. It’s where our mission began, and that commitment goes beyond building technology—it’s about protecting lives, supporting communities, and creating a shared sense of purpose.”

Founded and headquartered in Calgary, Blackline Safety develops advanced gas detection and lone worker monitoring solutions that today protect hundreds of thousands of workers in over 75 countries. Its technology is used across industries including energy, utilities, and emergency services.

Beyond its product innovations, Blackline Safety has established a strong culture of corporate citizenship. The company partners with local institutions like the University of Calgary, SAIT, and Mount Royal University—donating technology and providing real-world experiences in Industrial IoT, user experience design, and entrepreneurship.

The company also supports a range of community-focused organizations. From supplying lone worker devices to Calgary Zoo staff, to sponsoring mentorship programs for girls in STEM through TELUS Spark and Plan International, Blackline’s impact extends far beyond the workplace. Employees regularly volunteer with Discovery House, Made by Momma, Women in Need Society, and the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.

“This award belongs to our passionate employees,” said Slater. “It also belongs to our customers, who trust us to protect their teams, and to our investors, who believe in the power of purpose-driven business.”

The Calgary Awards, administered by the City of Calgary, spotlight individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions across categories including community service, arts, education, and business.
