Two Calgary cybersecurity innovators are representing Canada on the global stage through NATO’s Innovation Continuum, a strategic initiative designed to accelerate the adoption of emerging and disruptive technologies across the Alliance.
Ammolite Security, in partnership with Myntex, was selected for its secure communications platform built to defend against weaponized malware and spyware deployed by nation-states and private vendors. The platform integrates a hardened mobile operating system, encrypted messaging, embedded device management, and portable infrastructure to deliver sovereign, zero-trust communications without reliance on third-party cloud providers.
At the recent GLOW event in Portugal, the Calgary firms collaborated with Smarty, the UK Ministry of Defence, and MicroAmp on NATO’s 5G Testbed Portability Experiment. The joint effort demonstrated backhaul network resiliency by using both FR1 (sub-6 GHz) and FR2 (mmWave) frequency bands to rapidly reestablish communications when one band is jammed.
The experiment extended secure connectivity to the tactical edge, supporting mobile devices, live drone videofeeds, and even mmWave bodycams. Myntex CEO Geoff Green emphasized the importance of post-quantum secure communications, warning that nation-states often store encrypted data to decrypt later. “By showcasing our post-quantum secure communications, we’re helping allied forces safeguard sensitive information today and ensure it remains protected well into the future,” he said.
The Ammolite–Myntex solution includes encrypted calls, messaging, and group chats; portable provisioning units; and architecture designed to counter both conventional and quantum-enabled threats. Together, these features provide resilient communications for government, defense, and allied forces in contested environments.
“Representing Canada in the NATO Innovation Continuum is both an honor and a responsibility,” said Ammolite Security CEO Cara Wolf. “Our collaboration with Myntex highlights the strength of Canadian innovation in addressing some of the world’s most pressing cybersecurity challenges.”
The joint team will refine its experiment over the coming weeks ahead of the SHINE event in Turkey, where results will be presented as part of NATO’s global program.
Both Ammolite Security and Myntex are headquartered in Calgary. Ammolite focuses on cyber defense and threat intelligence, while Myntex has specialized in secure mobile communications for more than 14 years.
Together, they’re putting Canadian cybersecurity expertise at the forefront of NATO’s efforts to build the communications backbone for the future of defense.
