Calgary’s Harvest Venture Builders, a not-for-profit early-stage venture studio, has announced the launch of its new global climate and energy vertical, and expansion of its leadership team with proven energy and AI technology experts.
The new vertical will specifically focus on building and fostering a multifaceted and interdependent ecosystem that is centered around the implementation of AI operations for energy infrastructure.
Harvest believes this ecosystem will provide the framework for Calgary, a world leader in energy technology, to emerge as the global hub for Energy AI.
Leading this new vertical are Dan Chapman, Head of Climate and Energy, and Tevi Legge, Head of Innovation.
Dan Chapman brings over 15 years of experience in the clean electricity sector, and is recognized as a driving force of energy storage adoption in Canada. Dan has led the development of several marquee Canadian projects, including the first battery asset in Alberta, the first hybrid solar and battery project in Alberta, the largest battery project in Canada, and has supported the scaling of innovative new energy business models.
Tevi Legge, who previously served as the Vice President and Head of Digital Product at ATB, has emerged as a prominent leader in the field of product development, leading several high-profile projects across digital finance and services. Tevi has been recognized as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network and as one of the Top 100 Women in Tech by Fintech Magazine.
“Our ability to harness cleaner, more cost-effective sources of energy has the potential to bring about energy abundance and impactfully drive down costs for people and businesses. The implementation of new AI technologies will be a necessary enabler of that,” said Graeme Harrison, President of Harvest Venture Builders.
“With the incredible team of industry leaders and advisors championing this initiative, our new vertical will play a guiding role in driving innovation, capitalization and commercialization of critical energy AI technologies globally.”
Further supporting the climate and energy vertical, Harvest is welcoming three leading industry minds across AI and energy.
Dan Preston, SVP Strategic Initiatives at Lemonade and former CEO of Metromile, is a highly respected technology entrepreneur who established Metromile as the insurance industry leader in leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Chris Foster, former Chief Innovation Officer at TC Energy, brings a wealth of experience in the energy sector and has been recognized globally as a thought leader in innovation and sustainability.
Jordan Balaban, President of Greengate Power Corporation, has been instrumental in the development of several ground-breaking projects, including the largest wind and solar assets in Alberta.
In the upcoming months, Harvest will be launching a number of new projects supporting our climate and energy vertical with partners from across North America and around the globe. These projects will support the broad development and maturation of an Energy AI ecosystem and capital market with Calgary at the forefront.
