Calgary has landed a significant aerospace industry win as Lufthansa Technik (LHT) establishes its Western Canada headquarters at the city’s airport. The move marks a major step in positioning Calgary as a leading hub for aviation innovation, talent, and industry collaboration.
The decision by LHT, a global leader in aircraft maintenance and repair, is expected to bring substantial economic benefits, including the creation of up to 120 high-skilled jobs and training opportunities for 80 new professionals within the first four years. The facility will focus on next-generation engine testing and the development of alternative fuel technologies, reinforcing Calgary’s role in advancing sustainable aviation.
“This investment strengthens Calgary’s role as a hub for aerospace innovation and advanced aviation technologies,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek. “By attracting industry leaders like LHT, we are ensuring our city remains a beacon for forward-thinking talent and groundbreaking technological advancements.”
LHT’s new Test Cell Facility will play a key role in the research and development of sustainable aviation fuels and next-generation engine technologies. The project has received $2.5 million in support from the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) over four years, reflecting the city’s commitment to aerospace innovation.
“We are grateful for the strong support from our local allies in Canada, which is essential in advancing the creation of a new engine repair shop and test cell facility in Calgary,” said Soeren Stark, CEO of Lufthansa Technik.
The success in attracting LHT follows years of collaboration between Calgary Economic Development (CED) and industry stakeholders to showcase the city’s competitive business environment and deep talent pool.
“After years of hard work and collaboration to showcase our city, we are excited to see Lufthansa Technik land in the Blue Sky City,” said Brad Parry, President and CEO of CED. “This proves what’s possible as we continue to establish ourselves as a global aerospace leader.”
