Google for Startups Accelerator is celebrating their fifth anniversary of bringing together some of the best and brightest technology startups across Canada to help them scale, grow and thrive.
During this time, the accelerator has worked with more than 100 Canadian startups across different industries from healthcare to energy, and farming to fintech and these startups have gone on to raise more than $395 million and create more than 900 new jobs.
Among these startups are ten that call Alberta home including Calgary’s Nimble Science. The healthtech startup was included in the Google for Startups Accelerator: Women Founders program, which first launched in 2020.
Off to the Collision conference in Toronto next week, Nimble Science is revolutionizing the field of gastrointestinal research with its flagship product, the Small Intestine MicroBiome Aspiration (SIMBA) Capsule. The ingestible capsule that provides a non-invasive means of sampling the gut microbiome.
The capsule is a tiny, swallowable device that travels through the gastrointestinal tract, collecting valuable data and samples. Once the capsule has completed its journey, it is naturally excreted and can be retrieved for analysis. This process eliminates the need for invasive procedures like colonoscopies, making it a patient friendly alternative for studying gut health.
“The Google for Startups Accelerator has been truly transformative for me, and the whole Nimble team. After years of working to understand the needs of our customers , the accelerator helped us to transition from a ‘capsule’ company to a ‘data’ company – with services ready to deliver insights and data excellence across the GI health innovation space,” shared Sabina Bruehlmann PhD, Chief Executive Officer, Nimble Science.
“The technical and strategic support was unparalleled, but it was the unrelenting confidence from the Google team that brought the most significant impact. I’ll never think of ‘googling it’ in the same way again.”
Google for Startups Accelerator alumni from Calgary include Fillip, IrisCX, Monark, and Helcim.
Applications are now open for the fifth Google for Startups Accelerator Canada cohort until July 31st, which will kick off in early October 2024. The accelerator is designed to bring the best of Google’s programs, products, people and technology to Canadian technology startups.
Founders outline the top technical challenges for their startup, and are then paired with relevant experts from both Google and the industry to solve those challenges and grow their business.
Join a hybrid event on June 27th to learn more about the program benefits, success stories, impact to date, and hear from alumni, mentors and Google experts.
