Life Sciences Week, Alberta’s premier event spotlighting the life sciences sector, is set to return from September 23 to 27, 2024. With over 60 events and an anticipated 3,000 attendees, this year’s expanded program aims to highlight cutting-edge innovations while positioning Alberta as a global leader in life sciences.
The event, supported by Alberta Partners in Innovation (API), will feature contributions from Alberta Innovates and Edmonton Global. High-profile attendees include the Honorable Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation, and the Honorable Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health.
Glubish will speak at the kick-off event on Monday, September 23 and will also attend Calgary Investment and Innovation Day at Studio Bell on Wednesday, September 25.
Life Sciences Week underscores Alberta’s strategic importance in this sector, which encompasses disciplines from medicine to agriculture and AI. Alberta has also seen significant venture capital investment, ranking third in Canada, with nearly $400 million secured in the first half of 2024. Life sciences accounted for over 30% of these deals, making it the second-largest sector for VC activity in the province.
The initiative is designed to drive innovation, investment, and partnerships, solidifying Alberta’s position as a growing hub for life sciences that promises both economic growth and transformative health advancements.
