Seven leading BIPOC entrepreneurs from across Alberta will pitch their businesses to a sold-out crowd filled with investors, tech founders and innovators on Wednesday, November 9th.
The first event in Innovate Calgary’s inclusive innovation portfolio series focused on supporting BIPOC and Rural founders, the Black Founders in Tech Pitch Event celebrates the contributions that BIPOC founders make to Calgary’s burgeoning tech industry.
“Building a strong network is essential for any business owner, inventor or entrepreneur,” says Jerome Morgan, senior innovation manager, Innovate Calgary.
“Celebrating this community and highlighting Black-owned businesses for investors in such a deliberate way is exciting. Founders from diverse backgrounds have diverse perspectives and expertise that they bring to the table when they start businesses. We think that investors should be paying attention to the value this adds to the business community.”
More than twenty BIPOC founders applied to pitch at the event, which will feature live pitches from the seven finalists. Winning pitches will receive cash prizes and business support through Innovate Calgary’s Expert Advisor programs.
The event is the first held in Innovate Calgary’s Social Innovation Hub, which will officially launch in early 2023, and aims to support innovators and entrepreneurs working towards social good.
