Calgary-based Blackline Safety has announced a $1.6 million agreement with Total Safety, a leading provider of integrated industrial safety solutions. The deal involves the purchase of over 100 of Blackline’s next-generation EXO 8 portable area monitors, which will become part of Total Safety’s rental fleet.
The EXO 8 devices will be deployed during critical industrial operations, including refinery and petrochemical turnarounds—scheduled shutdowns for inspections, maintenance, and upgrades. Total Safety, headquartered in Houston, Texas, emphasized the monitors’ role in ensuring worker safety during high-stakes operations.
“Blackline’s new EXO 8 connected area monitor stood out for its advanced cloud connectivity, easy setup, long battery life, and ability to monitor up to eight gases in real time,” said Robbie Payne, Senior Vice President of Operations at Total Safety.
Launched in September 2024 at the National Safety Council Congress & Expo, the EXO 8 is the only direct-to-cloud area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases and gamma radiation. Designed for industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, and homeland security, the device enhances real-time monitoring and rapid incident response.
Cody Slater, CEO of Blackline Safety, hailed the collaboration as a major milestone. “Worker safety is at the heart of everything we do. Partnerships like this allow us to bring cutting-edge solutions to those who need them most, ensuring safer workplaces globally.”
The EXO 8 is now in global production and shipping, with the Total Safety deal marking one of its first major orders.
