The51 has appointed veteran business leader Colleen Moorehead as Chair of its Board of Directors, marking a significant step forward for the women-led venture firm and financial platform.
Moorehead brings decades of experience at the intersection of capital markets, technology, and governance, including leadership roles in both public and private sectors. A fintech trailblazer, she co-founded E*TRADE Canada in the late 1990s after building her career at Merrill Lynch and CIBC.
“We are thrilled to welcome Colleen as our new Board Chair,” said Shelley Kuipers, Co-founder and CEO of The51. “Colleen’s strategic mindset, operational depth, and passion for creating space for women’s influence in capital markets aligns perfectly with our mission. She’s a force—and her leadership will help propel us forward.”
Moorehead previously served as CEO and board chair of Solium and Dye & Durham and was most recently Chief Client Officer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. She currently advises iNovia Capital and VERTU Capital and mentors high-growth ventures through CDL ScaleUp.
An outspoken advocate for women in leadership, Moorehead co-founded The Judy Project at the Rotman School of Management and co-authored the bestselling book The Collective Wisdom of High-Performing Women. She is also active in philanthropic initiatives, including Kids Help Phone, Women’s College Hospital Foundation, and Covenant House.
The51, based in Calgary, is a community-driven financial platform designed to mobilize women’s capital and influence. It provides investment opportunities, financial education, and a values-aligned network to support women founders and investors.
Moorehead’s appointment comes as The51 continues its efforts to reshape the financial landscape by unlocking the power of women’s capital to drive economic and social progress.
