Garmin Canada announced today the expansion of its Canadian headquarters in Cochrane.
Together with the Town of Cochrane and alongside the Government of Alberta, the company unveiled plans for the addition of a third floor to its existing building, which will make room for 200 new local science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) jobs.
The expansion will nearly double Garmin’s employment in Cochrane and lays the groundwork for even more significant growth that would have the potential of bringing several hundred additional STEM jobs to Cochrane.
They moved into their current building in 2018 and reached capacity in just over four years. This third-floor expansion is a result of continued investment and support from Garmin, coupled with a partnership between Cochrane, Springwood Developments, Garmin Canada and the province through the extension of the Community Revitalization Levy (CRL) program.
“Our office’s journey started in 1998 with four of us working out of a garage in Cochrane. It’s incredible to be announcing this expansion and to be welcoming more team members to join us.” said Jim Rooney, Managing Director of Garmin Canada. “We are grateful for Cochrane’s support and alignment with our long-term vision for future growth. I hear it from our associates everyday – there’s no better place to live, work and play.”
Formerly operating as Dynastream Innovations, Garmin Canada has been developing industry-leading technology for the fitness and outdoor industries for more than 20 years.
“Garmin Canada is a genuine Alberta startup success story, and we’re proud the company calls Cochrane home,” said Jeff Genung, Mayor of Cochrane. “The company attracts world-class talent, and Cochrane attracts world-class people. We are pleased to be working together to continue building this community as a technology hub.”
