The 6th annual Start Alberta Tech Awards took place in Edmonton on October 11th.
The awards recognize 12 individuals and organizations for their success and contributions to Alberta’s innovation ecosystem, and for making a significant impact in the province’s tech sector.
Calgary’s WaitWell was recognized as the A100 One to Watch. This award recognizes one of Alberta’s early-stage companies that will be the “most likely to succeed”, as nominated by the Alberta tech community and chosen by A100 Charter Members.
Earlier this year Waitwell secured seed funding of $1.5 million from Toronto’s Graphite Ventures and Edmonton’s Accelerate Fund III. Last year they were recognized as one of the top 10 most promising startups at Calgary’s Innovation Week 2022 Launch Party.
Not surprisingly the Most Significant Transaction nod went to CoolIT Systems for their $365 acquisition by global investment firm KKR for a reported $365 million.
Start Alberta’s Scaleup of the Year award recognizes one of Alberta’s later-stage companies that is having a positive impact on the Alberta tech ecosystem. The 2023 award was collected by Neo Financial.
Edmonton’s Jobber was awarded the Deal of the Year award for their massive USD $100 million financing round led by global growth equity investor General Atlantic. The award-winning financing is being used to support the company’s continued growth through investments in R&D, sales and marketing, and new customer acquisition.
