5 Calgary Tech Companies to Check Out at Global Energy Show Canada

June 7, 2024 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Global Energy Show Canada is taking over Calgary’s newly expanded BMO Centre in Stampede Park for its annual event with a strong focus on technology, innovation, and sustainability. The energy show runs from June 11 to 13 and will host industry leaders and participants from around the world.

Alberta’s energy sector is a star attraction at the show where numerous awards will be given to deserving companies. Calgary companies with a tech focus lead many of this year’s award categories.

That’s no surprise as a big winner in 2023 was Galatea Technologies, a company that’s been on Calgary.tech’s watchlist for startups. Galatea CEO Chad Hayden called the award a momentum builder for the business and a catalyst for conversations with clients and investors. Hayden is a member of the judging panel this year.

We’re highlighting 5 Calgary companies at Global Energy Show Canada worth checking out and deserving of any accolades they earn.

Eavor

Eavor has invented a new geothermal power generation technology that overcomes all the traditional roadblocks of geothermal. The company offers a globally scalable, next-generation geothermal system that can provide continuous clean energy. The patented Eavor-Loop extracts energy from hot rock via conduction by drilling several kilometres into subsurface rock, then completes a closed-loop system that circulates a working fluid. Major funding rounds, including government support, are helping the company scale its technology at a commercial level.

PrePad

PrePad is a cloud-based software that elevates engineering capabilities by revolutionizing drilling and completions, delivering sustainable, precise, and efficient cost and time estimation solutions. When shale oil and gas operators drill and complete a new well pad, they want to maximize profitability. These operators typically use in-house solutions, but unique excel spreadsheets and custom models take significant time and resources. PrePad helps operators replicate in minutes what would typically take multiple employees several weeks or months.

Carbonova

Carbonova is a start-up turning greenhouse gas emissions into carbon materials for sustainable and inexpensive everyday essentials. They produce carbon nanofibers from the greenhouse gas conversion. Their customers enjoy a competitive advantage by improving product performance and reducing their CO2 footprint, contributing to increased margins and market share. The company is a University of Calgary spin-off that has had multiple funding rounds. They’re engineering a commercial demonstration nanofibers unit in northeast Calgary.

Impossible Sensing Energy

Impossible Sensing Energy works with energy customers to identify critical data and measurement gaps, and then introduces industry-first solutions to close those gaps. They’ve adapted technology used on the Mars Rover to measure oil and gas production in real-time, offering full production visibility and enabling process improvements. Their work is allowing energy producers to reduce GHG emissions by up to 10% in conventional operations and up to 90% in oil sands production.

Bolongo

Bolongo is a comprehensive supply chain services business and software company. Their supply chain platform includes software and a digital transaction engine designed to enhance strategic sourcing and investment recovery efforts in industrial supply chains such as you’d find in the energy sector. The company provides project negotiation, strategic sourcing solutions, and divestment of assets by offering a simplified, sustainable solution for its members. The company also has a focus on environmental sustainability through optimizing the use of existing resources.
