Collision will be bringing together tech companies, entrepreneurs, and world-class speakers in Toronto from June 17 to 20. Dubbed the “Olympics of Tech,” at its core Collision remains a conference for the freshest and brightest business ideas and this year there are outstanding companies from Alberta attending with Innovate Calgary’s support.

We’re highlighting seven companies leading up to Collision. Today our spotlight is on Quantized Technologies Inc (QTi).
Company Overview
QTi is working to transform digital communication through the development and widespread adoption of relevant quantum technologies, which can provide society with quantum-based solutions to real-world problems.
The company’s mission is to deliver essential communications technologies that meet societal needs. The second quantum revolution and the rapid development of quantum computation open doors for society to benefit from advancements in quantum communications technologies.
Currently, QTi is pioneering at the frontier of secure network connectivity by leveraging quantum technology to protect our digital world from new threats and enable new network opportunities in the era of quantum computing.
The threat of quantum and other high-performance computation, such as AI, to existing cybersecurity methods demands a transition to quantum-secure solutions. QTi is developing a next-generation, quantum-based solution to secure networks from threats. Not only does this technology deliver unprecedented security and scalability in quantum-secure data exchange, but it also paves the way for secure quantum networks and a quantum internet.
Funding and Development
QTi has generated significant attention and investment. Recent funding efforts have focused on scaling innovations to meet the demands of modern cybersecurity and communication infrastructures.
The University of Calgary has been instrumental in the creation of QTi. The company actually had its early beginnings in a university lab. The university supported QTi in obtaining early funding, including an Alberta Innovation Catalyst Grant worth $250,000. Co-founder and CEO Jordan Smith has noted his professors were a huge influence on him and that he received mentorship through the university’s Academic Entrepreneurs in Residence program.
The support from various investors, including key players in the technology and venture capital sectors, has enabled QTi to advance its R&D and market traction. Funds are being used to refine the quantum technology, expand the team, and build commercial partnerships within industries that stand to benefit from future-proofing secure digital networking.
Expert Leadership
The company was founded by CEO Smith and its Chief Scientist Daniel Oblak. They are leading the charge for a safer and more abundant digital future. While estimates say a state-of-the-art supercomputer could take more than 16 million years to break some of the current encryption methods used today, it would take a quantum computer mere minutes. As a result, quantum computing enables threat actors to break encryption methods and compromise the security of digital networks, which, in turn, would break the internet. QTi hopes to protect the world against such threats with its technology.
But the rapid advance of quantum computing is not all bad. It promises to enable life-changing computations that have, thus far, been beyond our imagination, such as advanced biological and chemical modelling, the next generation of pharmaceutical design, modelling and better understanding nature and the universe, and solving optimization and other highly complex problems that have previously been intractable. Much like our current classical computers, single quantum computers will be powerful, but quantum computing networks will take that to the next level. QTi will use its technology to build and enable those quantum networks.
