In a landmark achievement for sustainable homebuilding, Calgary’s Jayman BUILT and SkyFire Energy have reached 10 MegaWatts (MW) of installed solar power across nearly 60 Alberta communities.
Since launching their solar initiative in 2018, the partnership has resulted in the installation of 28,262 solar modules on 3,964 Jayman homes, generating enough clean energy annually to power 14.7 million laundry loads or drive an electric vehicle around the planet 1,830 times.
“In partnership with SkyFire Energy, we are proud to reach this significant milestone in residential solar power installation,” said Dave Hooge, Chief Operating Officer of Jayman. “As one of the first builders in Canada to include 10 solar panels as a standard feature in every home, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for Albertans—today and in the future.”
Hooge emphasized Jayman’s forward-thinking approach to sustainability, highlighting that solar power has quickly transitioned from a luxury to a standard home feature. “By embracing solar technology now, we ensure we’re at the forefront of industry changes. Most importantly, our customers expect it. What was once considered a luxury quickly became a necessity, much like a fridge or furnace. We’re excited to continue leading the way in making sustainable living the new normal for all Albertans.”
SkyFire Energy, a Certified B Corporation, has played a pivotal role in this milestone, bringing over 20 years of expertise in renewable energy to the partnership. The collaboration integrates solar power with Jayman’s energy-efficient building practices, reducing carbon emissions and utility costs for thousands of homeowners while adding value to their properties.
“Partnering with Jayman to make solar energy accessible to thousands of homeowners exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving meaningful environmental and community impact,” said David Vonesch, CEO of SkyFire Energy. “This milestone demonstrates how two forward-thinking companies can build sustainable communities that offer immediate savings to homeowners while advancing Alberta’s transition to a cleaner, Net Zero future.”
Jayman remains the only Alberta homebuilder to include solar panels as a standard feature on all new homes. This 10 MW milestone underscores their leadership in sustainable homebuilding and sets a new benchmark for renewable energy integration in Alberta’s residential sector.
