As risks to frontline emergency responders grow, Canadian safety technology leader Blackline Safety has reported a record 175% increase in fire and hazmat customers over the past year — marking a new high in adoption of its connected safety solutions.
The number of fire and hazmat teams using Blackline’s cloud-connected personal and area monitors jumped from 127 to 350 worldwide, with thousands of users now relying on the technology across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Fire and hazmat teams face fatal injury rates three times higher than the average worker,” said Doug Mayer, Fire Hazmat Business Development Specialist at Blackline Safety. “Real-time connected technology is no longer a luxury — it’s essential for saving lives.”
Blackline’s suite of safety products — including its G7 and G6 personal gas detectors and Blackline Live cloud monitoring platform — helps emergency teams improve situational awareness, accelerate deployment, and make informed decisions in high-risk environments.
“Blackline’s remote monitoring capabilities allow me to log in any time and see what my guys are dealing with,” said Travis Rebello, Firefighter and Hazmat Coordinator for the City of New Bedford, Massachusetts. “I’m a big fan and appreciate Blackline’s excellent customer service.”
In tandem with its growing customer base, Blackline also announced that it will begin shipping its new EXO 8 Gamma area monitor later this month. The EXO 8 is the only portable, direct-to-cloud area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases and gamma radiation simultaneously.
“This is a game-changer for fire and hazmat teams — not only in emergency response, but also in public event monitoring,” said Mayer.
The monitor delivers early warning of radiation and gas threats and provides real-time cloud data sharing and analytics to improve future incident response.
2025 has been a big year for Blackline.
Last month, the company marked its 20th anniversary at its Calgary headquarters with a showcase of its latest innovations, highlighting its role in advancing Alberta’s high-tech manufacturing sector and redefining workplace safety worldwide.
Blackline was also named to Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2025. The company earned recognition for revolutionizing workplace safety through real-time monitoring solutions that help organizations prevent incidents, respond faster, and make data-driven safety decisions.
“We’re proud to be recognized by Fast Company for leading the transformation of workplace safety,” said Cody Slater, CEO and Chair of Blackline Safety. “Every day, more than 160,000 workers across the globe return home safely because their employers trust Blackline’s technology to protect them.”
