
Calgary’s cleantech community will be in the spotlight next week as the 2025 Alberta Cleantech Awards return to the BMO Centre on May 21st. Held on the opening night of the Inventures conference, the annual awards recognize trailblazers advancing innovation and sustainability across Alberta’s economy.
Finalists were announced today, with Calgary-based startups making a strong showing in both ‘Venture of the Year’ categories, which celebrate high-impact cleantech companies at different stages of growth.
In the Venture of the Year: Startup category, Ayrton Energy, Precision Livestock Diagnostics, eGrid Systems, Highwood Emissions Management, and TerraFerno Geothermal Solutions are all in the running. These early-stage companies are pushing boundaries in emissions management, agriculture, grid technology, and geothermal energy—highlighting Calgary’s emergence as a national cleantech hub.
The Venture of the Year: Scaleup finalists include Calgary’s Carbonova, Swirltex, ZS2 Technologies, and VL Energy, along with Edmonton’s Nanoprecise Sci Corp. These growth-stage firms are scaling innovations in advanced materials, water treatment, and energy optimization with global market potential.
Presented by Export Development Canada, the Alberta Cleantech Awards are hosted by Foresight Canada, now in its third year of recognizing the people, companies, and collaborators accelerating Alberta’s clean economy.

Other categories this year include Adopter of the Year, with finalists like Air Products, YEG Airport, and Jayman BUILT; Cleantech Supporter of the Year, spotlighting organizations such as CRIN, Energy Futures Lab, and the Energy Transition Centre; and Funder of the Year, featuring Alberta Innovates, ERA, and Startup TNT.
Winners will be revealed during a high-energy evening celebration that caps off the first day of Inventures and showcases Alberta’s momentum in climate tech and clean industry leadership.
