Calgary tech leaders will get an inside look at how to scale leadership as a company grows when Tech Thursday hosts a fireside chat with Jeff Smith, CEO of Digital Commerce Bank (DCBank).
Smith is best known for co‑founding DirectCash Payments in 1997 with Susan Anderson and transforming it into the world’s second‑largest ATM operator. At its peak, the company managed 25,000 ATMs, generated $400 million in revenue, and employed 425 people before selling to Cardtronics for $600 million in 2017.
Today, Smith leads DCBank, steering its evolution from physical ATMs to digital, API‑driven payment solutions such as e‑transfer, EFT, card services, and digital wallets. His experience offers first‑hand insights into how leaders can successfully pivot themselves—and their companies—as markets shift and organizations scale.
The fireside chat, From Founder to CEO: Evolving Leadership as Your Company Grows, takes place on August 28 at The Pioneer. Attendees will learn how leadership skills change at different stages of growth, how to gather and act on employee feedback, and how to navigate major business pivots.
