The annual Foresight 50, a spotlight on the most promising Canadian cleantech ventures poised for investment, has opened applications for 2023.
The initiative by Foresight Canada seeks out privately held ventures that are ready to contribute to environmental sustainability while also demonstrating potential for return on investment.
Foresight 50 companies from 2021 went on to successfully raise $600 million, while the 2022 cohort has been widely featured in international media. Thus the organization promises this year’s selected ventures stand to gain exposure and networking opportunities.
The 2023 Foresight 50 ventures will be included in the Foresight 50 Pitchbook, which is expected to be viewed thousands of times by a global investor audience.
There will also be in-person and virtual activities designed to maximize the ventures’ exposure to potential investors. These include the Foresight 50 Showcase in November in Calgary, where ventures will be honoured at a public celebration that will also be live-streamed worldwide, and a private Investor Forum, where the Foresight 50 honourees will have curated private meetings with industry-leading speakers.
Applications, open until July 21, are evaluated by an independent panel of investors and investment professionals based on criteria including investability, environmental impact, leadership team, and probability of success.
The Foresight 50 program aligns with Foresight Canada’s mission to drive Canada’s cleantech sector towards net-zero emissions. As of now, the initiative has supported 1,000 companies as part of a clean-tech community consisting of 1,500 members and 150 regional and global partners.
This 2023 initiative is powered by Gowling WLG and Copoint, and supported by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program, which provides funding for the Cleantech Ventures program.
