Remote condition monitoring is an emerging approach that allows operators to observe the health of equipment from any location.
The process involves using sensors and other devices to collect data about equipment performance, which is then analyzed to identify potential issues before they can result in a breakdown.
This technology is increasingly being used across industries such as manufacturing and oil to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime for mission-critical machinery.
A local company operating in this space is Edmonton’s Nanoprecice Sci Corp, which was recently recognized as a technological innovator by the Global Energy Show Canada Awards at Calgary’s newly expanded BMO Centre in Stampede Park.
Nanoprecise’s latest product enhancement is the Energy Dashboard, which is designed to optimize energy consumption.
At the heart of this approach is NrgMonitor, which uses patented flux sensor technology and proprietary A.I. algorithms.
NrgMonitor measures changes in the electromagnetic field exhibited by electric motors to calculate the related changes in energy consumption. Over time, this delivers insights into efficiency reductions stemming from mechanical, electrical, or process inefficiencies.
“By systematically gathering flux readings at regular intervals, Nanoprecise’s NrgMonitor efficiently filters out transient operational fluctuations, resulting in more reliable data,” the company explains in a statement. “The system then analyzes these readings to identify shifts in electromagnetic field, which are indicative of energy consumption patterns.”
Data from comparisons are normalized against a motor’s rated power and flux capacity; relative changes in flux are then converted into quantifiable kilowatt losses, providing a clear measure of energy inefficiencies, according to Nanoprecise.
The company believes this technology can not only reduce energy consumption, but also lower operational costs and extend the lifespan of equipment, among other potential benefits.
Nanoprecise was founded in 2017 by chief executive officer Sunil Vedula.
