Innovate Calgary’s Aerospace Innovation Hub, in partnership with The Calgary Airport Authority and WestJet, has launched the Soaring Higher Innovation Challenge, a global competition aimed at enhancing the air travel experience.
The initiative invites startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to propose innovative solutions across booking, baggage handling, and other aspects of air travel.
The challenge focuses on three key areas:
- Seamless Booking and Airport Experience: Improving check-in and multi-airline booking processes across platforms to create a smoother airport experience.
- Streamlined Baggage Handling: Solutions to reduce lost luggage and enhance tracking and delivery.
- Disruptive Innovations: Open to unconventional ideas that could transform the aviation industry.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with YYC and WestJet to invite innovators from around the world to help solve some of the most pressing challenges in the air travel industry,” said John Wilson, President & CEO of Innovate Calgary.
Winning companies will receive complimentary membership to the Aerospace Innovation Hub, mentorship from industry leaders, access to operational facilities, and networking opportunities.
“With 28 years of experience and an entrepreneurial spirit, WestJet is ready to support successful applicants,” said Christian Novosel, WestJet’s Chief Digital Officer.
Applications are open to startups and SMEs with fewer than 100 employees and annual revenues under $1 million CAD. Companies must incorporate in Canada within a month of selection. The deadline for submissions is April 25, 2025.
