TELUS to Create 8,500 Jobs in Alberta as Company Unveils New Calgary Headquarters

July 4, 2022 by Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Telus this week reaffirmed its “generational” investment in the City of Calgary and across Alberta as a whole as the BC-based company opens a major new office in the region this month.

The investment amount totals $430 million and will go toward the expansion and upgrading of operations, network infrastructure, and spectrum throughout Alberta.

“This generational $17 billion investment in Alberta is a true demonstration of Telus’ long-standing commitment to improving the lives of Canadians by connecting communities from coast-to-coast with our world-leading wireless 5G and PureFibre networks,” said Darren Entwistle, CEO of Telus.

According to a statement from the telecom titan, this investment is expected to create more than 8,000 new jobs for Albertans.

“This significant investment by Telus in our community further connects citizens to the tools they need to thrive, and will create more well-paying jobs for Calgarians,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

This week Telus is celebrating the opening of Telus Sky, the company’s new state of the art headquarters in downtown Calgary. Built to the highest LEED certification standards, Telus says its $400-million Sky is “one of the most technologically innovative and environmentally-friendly sites in North America.”

“The opening of Telus Sky this week further showcases TELUS’ commitment to our shared aspirations for a dynamic, transformative and sustainable future,” said Mayor Gondek.

Sky contributes to Telus’ “legacy of making powerful contributions to advance the economic strength and social vitality of both the city of Calgary and the province of Alberta,” according to the company.

“We are supporting the social and economic vibrancy of Albertans and ensuring that every member of our society has access to the technology that yields the opportunity to realize their full potential,” Entwistle said.

Telus stated last year that the deployment of its 5G network will create a grand total of 250,000 jobs—and contribute a staggering $150 billion to Canada’s economy—over the next 20 years.
