InTuitionPay Partners with Platform Calgary, UCalgary to Empower International Students

January 18, 2023 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A fintech startup targeting international students has launched from Calgary.

InTuitionPay is a “fintech company that helps international students from Africa pay for their tuition fees abroad in a timely manner and connect with other students,” according to cofounder and chief executive Tinashe Mutamangira.

The startup has built a “mobile payment gateway app” that helps international university students from Africa “save up to 50% in tuition remittance fees and reduce latency of tuition payments for students in Canada, USA, UK, and Australia,” according to the Alberta company’s website.

This helps reduce anxiety among students with InTuitionPay’s goal being to have them “never miss a university enrolment deadline again.”

InTuitionPay assures its platform is secure, and can reduce wait times by weeks with same-day processing. The app accepts bank transfers as well as credit cards.

There is also a social element to the startup’s app, allowing users to find and chat with other students at their school.

Schools currently partnering with InTuition include the University of Calgary, the University of Manitoba (Mutamangira hails from Winnipeg), and “many more.” Community-building partners include local non-profit Platform Calgary and North Forge, a technology incubator and accelerator based in Manitoba.

Despite a strong roster of trusted partners, Mutamangira says the startup has struggled to attract capital from investors who fail to grasp the “gravity of the problem.”

With a broad vision to provide better access to financial services and educations for immigrant communities around the world, InTuitionPay is a small startup with bold ambition.

The company was initially founded in Calgary in 2021 and its app was publicly released late last year.
