Innovate Calgary recently welcomed three new startups to its Life Sciences Fellowship program.
The Life Sciences Fellowship program takes early-stage startups with technology-driven solutions to important problems and adds funding, technology development resources, professional development training and expert support.
“We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the newest cohort of the Life Sciences Fellowship program at Innovate Calgary,” the organization stated this month. “These visionary entrepreneurs are poised to revolutionize the life sciences landscape with their dedication and remarkable innovations.”
One of the companies selected is RAD Medical Technologies, founded by Danny Zahynacz.
RAD is developing orthopedic patient positioning solutions designed to enhance the experience for both operating room staff and their patients. Zahynacz’s focus lies in providing reliable products that seamlessly integrate into surgical procedures, allowing OR staff to concentrate on surgery while ensuring optimal patient positioning.
Another new Fellow is MHCombiotic, launched by Ali Pormohammad.
MHCombiotic is on a mission to combat antimicrobial resistance and save lives through the development of novel and safe antibacterial agents. Leveraging decades of scientific research and expertise, MHC is dedicated to formulating antimicrobials with a low risk of future resistance, addressing a global health challenge.
And last but not least, Sarah Harper is behind the third cohort addition, My Fertility Labs.
Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals navigating fertility journeys, My Fertility Labs offers full fertility bloodwork for both women and men, coupled with specialized clinician analysis to uncover underlying hormonal imbalances.
“As we witness the unveiling of these groundbreaking startups, we are reminded of the immense potential within the life sciences industry,” reads a statement from Innovate Calgary. “The future of life sciences innovation is indeed bright—stay tuned for more exciting developments as these visionary entrepreneurs continue to shape the landscape of healthcare and biotechnology.”
Hosted by Innovate Calgary at the University of Calgary, the Fellowship is supported by Alberta Innovates; Alberta Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development; Calgary Economic Development’s Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund; Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, and Prairies Economic Development Canada.
Recent graduates include BioMimir, a medical device company founded in 2021 that is developing biomaterials-based solutions for complex wounds.
