Cybersecurity Program Returns, at Reduced Cost, to Address Talent Gap

May 8, 2024 by Bulletin Board Leave a Comment

Regular readers of Calgary.tech are well aware in 2024 that the beautiful nation of Canada is grappling with an ugly dearth of cybersecurity, and consumers and businesses have both been paying tolls as a result.

Total employment in Canada’s cybersecurity sector rose more than 12% last year, a report from Upskill Canada and Deloitte found, but up to one-in-six positions remain unfilled.

Amid a slew of counter-measures to the talent void is a targeted program from longstanding talent supplier Lighthouse Labs that has been rendered more affordable than ever.

Funded by Upskill Canada (powered by Palette Skills) and the Government of Canada, Lighthouse Labs is offering Canadian workers “the opportunity to find new careers through skills training and job placement in the rapidly growing cybersecurity sector.”

Initially launched in 2021, the Cyber Security Program runs 12 weeks in length on a full-time basis, according to Lighthouse, and utilizes industry-aligned curriculums with experienced tutors while offering personalized career services support.

Topics covered include server administration, network security, threat modelling and analysis, and incident response.

“The number of cyber attacks and incidents in Canada has been unprecedented, and as a result, the industry need for skilled cyber security professionals is at an all-time high,” Jeremy Shaki, CEO of Lighthouse Labs, stated in December.

Lighthouse Labs’ Cyber Security Program is notably among the more accessible pathways to a career in the sector.

Cybersecurity experience is not required, and the cost of the program has been reduced from $14,000 to just $3,500.

“If you have three or more years of work experience in any field,” the company says, “you may be eligible to attend a retraining program to learn in-demand digital skills.”

Those interested in joining Lighthouse Labs’ Cyber Security Program can attend a free Info Session.

Upskill Canada, powered by Palette Skills, a non-profit, is a national talent platform that helps fast-growing companies access the talent they need to compete and succeed globally, while creating new career pathways for workers to rapidly transition into high-demand roles.

Funded by Upskill Canada [powered by Palette Skills] and the Government of Canada.
