Calgary’s tech community will have an opportunity to hear the story behind PurposeMed’s recently announced US$250-million deal with Grindr at an upcoming fireside chat hosted by Long Calgary and House 831.
The event will feature PurposeMed co-founder Pete MacLeod for a conversation about the transaction, a significant milestone for the Calgary healthtech company.
As Calgary.tech recently reported, the deal will bring PurposeMed’s Freddie and Affirming Care Pharmacy businesses into Grindr, while Frida and Foria become independent companies. Closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The announcement follows years of growth for PurposeMed, which built its business around improving access to specialized healthcare for underserved communities. Calgary.tech covered its growth investment led by True North Fund in March 2025, with backing from BDC and Panache Ventures, as the company expanded into the United States.
Freddie focuses on HIV prevention and sexual healthcare, while Frida provides virtual ADHD care and Foria delivers gender-affirming care. The planned transaction gives those businesses distinct paths forward, with Freddie set to join Grindr’s growing healthcare offering.
For Calgary founders and operators, the fireside offers a timely opportunity to hear directly from an entrepreneur whose company has grown from addressing gaps in healthcare access to attracting an international buyer.
