Calgary-based PurposeMed, the company behind Freddie and Affirming Care Pharmacy, is set to join Grindr in a US$250-million acquisition, while its Frida and Foria healthcare businesses become independent entities.
The transaction includes US$190 million in cash and US$60 million in stock, with up to US$70 million in additional payments tied to 2027 performance targets. Closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In an LinkedIn post announcing the changes, PurposeMed said its healthcare verticals have developed distinct market identities and are ready for dedicated strategic focus.
“As our core verticals have matured, each has established a distinct market identity and reached a stage ready for dedicated strategic focus,” the company stated.
PurposeMed said combining Freddie’s clinical infrastructure with Grindr’s reach and community connections could make affirming sexual healthcare more accessible across Canada and the United States. The company also emphasized that the team behind Freddie will carry the business forward alongside Grindr.
Frida, which provides virtual ADHD care, will become an independent company focused on expanding access to care for Canadians. Foria will also become independent and continue growing its gender-affirming care services. PurposeMed said Foria recently expanded into British Columbia, joining its existing presence in Ontario and Alberta.
The transaction marks a significant milestone for a company Calgary.tech has followed through its growth in digital healthcare.
In 2023, Calgary.tech profiled PurposeMed’s approach to improving healthcare access, combining specialized clinicians, technology and pharmacy delivery to serve communities facing barriers to traditional care.
The company later secured growth financing led by True North Fund, with backing from BDC and Panache Ventures. Announced in March 2025, the investment supported PurposeMed’s continued expansion, including into the U.S. market.
Grindr plans to combine Freddie with its existing Woodwork telehealth offering under Grindr Health.
For PurposeMed, the next chapter gives its healthcare brands separate paths to expand: Freddie and Affirming Care Pharmacy alongside Grindr, and Frida and Foria as independent businesses.
“We’re energized to carry Freddie’s powerful momentum forward alongside Grindr, backed by the same passionate team that brought us here,” PurposeMed said on LinkedIn.
