eStruxture Commits $750 Million to Build Alberta’s Largest Data Center Amid Rising AI Demand

October 29, 2024 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

eStruxture, Canada’s leading AI and hyperscale-ready data center provider, is making a landmark $750 million investment in Alberta with the full build of CAL-3, the province’s largest and most advanced data center.

Located north of Calgary in Rocky View County, CAL-3 is set to launch in the fall of 2026, aiming to address the region’s surging demand from AI and cloud service providers. This high-capacity facility will deliver an unprecedented 90 megawatts (MW) of power, marking a significant leap forward for high-density computing infrastructure in Alberta.

CAL-3’s Tier III design aligns with eStruxture’s commitment to combining sustainability with cutting-edge technology. Built with energy-efficient power and cooling systems, the center can support cabinet densities exceeding 125 kW, essential for high-performance AI and cloud applications. The facility’s robust infrastructure is tailored for next-generation services, including AI, GPU as a Service (GPUaaS), and hyperscale cloud deployment, and stands as a model for environmentally responsible digital infrastructure.

In line with eStruxture’s design philosophy, CAL-3 will offer customizable data halls, allowing clients flexible growth options to scale with increasing digital demand. Additionally, CAL-3’s fully redundant inter-site connectivity with eStruxture’s CAL-1 and CAL-2 locations bolsters the reliability of Alberta’s digital backbone, reinforcing the region’s position as a key North American technology hub.

“CAL-3 is a significant, strategic investment, not only for eStruxture but for Alberta’s rapidly evolving digital and AI landscape,” stated Todd Coleman, Founder, President, and CEO of eStruxture. “This expansion reinforces our commitment to driving the province’s digital economy forward, offering scalable and sustainable infrastructure that meets the growing demands of AI and cloud service providers. Calgary is pivotal to Canada’s tech future, and we’re proud to support its growth with this cutting-edge facility.”

As eStruxture expands its Alberta footprint, CAL-3 is poised to become a crucial asset in the province’s digital and economic evolution, helping solidify Alberta’s standing on the global stage as a leader in tech-driven innovation.
