Calgary-based WCD is ushering in a bold new era after selling its legacy printing business and shifting its focus toward back-office optimization. The company, which has helped modernize operations for Canadian businesses for over 70 years, is doubling down on workflow automation and digital transformation.
“The back office is the engine room of digital transformation,” said WCD President and CEO Karen Brookman. “When you modernize these processes, you unlock speed, accuracy and insight. That’s how organizations become more agile, more data-driven, and ultimately, more competitive.”
WCD’s renewed vision targets a wide range of back-office functions—finance, HR, compliance, procurement—that are increasingly under pressure to do more with fewer resources. With hybrid work, tighter regulations, and new automation capabilities reshaping operational needs, Brookman says there’s a growing demand for intelligent tools that turn the back office from a cost centre into a strategic asset.
As part of this transformation, WCD has announced a strategic partnership with Lithe, a UK-based global leader in document and process automation. Through the partnership, WCD becomes the preferred Canadian reseller of Ondox, Lithe’s AI-powered digital mailroom platform.
By integrating Ondox into its managed services offering, WCD will enable businesses across Canada to capture, classify, and route documents in real time—converting traditional mailrooms into high-efficiency digital gateways.
“Adding Ondox to our technology portfolio strengthens WCD’s mission to connect people, process, data and automation,” Brookman said. “Our customers are looking for smarter ways to manage physical and digital communications. Ondox delivers exactly that—efficiency, compliance, and a seamless user experience.”
Lithe CEO Anthony Murphy welcomed the partnership. “WCD’s reputation for delivering trusted, high-value solutions aligns perfectly with our mission to help organizations modernize their document workflows,” he said.
The move positions WCD as a key player in the rapidly evolving field of intelligent document processing and signals its intent to scale nationally with cutting-edge solutions.
With longstanding relationships in sectors like energy, finance, healthcare, and government, WCD aims to help more organizations transition from paper-heavy processes to automated, insight-driven operations.
“We’re here to help organizations rethink how their back office functions—and build a better one,” Brookman said.
