Foresight Canada Names Alberta Cleantech Award Winners at Inventures 2025

May 22, 2025 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Foresight Canada celebrated Alberta’s top clean technology innovators last night at the Alberta Cleantech Awards, held during the Inventures 2025 Conference in Calgary. The awards recognize companies and organizations accelerating the adoption of cleantech solutions and contributing to the province’s economic resilience.

This year’s winners highlight Alberta’s growing strength in transforming industrial expertise into sustainable, forward-looking progress.

Alberta has long been a leader in energy innovation. Over a decade ago, it became the first province in Canada to establish comprehensive carbon sequestration legislation. Today, it continues to build on that legacy by positioning itself as a hub for clean hydrogen, carbon capture, and renewable energy.

Award Winners

Startup Venture of the Year: Ayrton Energy

Calgary-based, women-led Ayrton Energy is developing a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) system that enables safe, scalable hydrogen storage and transportation using existing diesel infrastructure. Founded in 2021, the company has attracted strong public and private investment and grown to a 20-person team.

Scaleup Venture of the Year: Nanoprecise

Founded in 2017, Nanoprecise specializes in AI-powered predictive maintenance and energy efficiency for industrial motors. Its IoT-enabled platform reduces downtime and improves operational efficiency. The company is now expanding into self-powered IoT devices and advanced maintenance software.

Adopter of the Year: Dow

Dow was recognized for its $6.5 billion Path2Zero project—a net-zero ethylene cracker and polyethylene complex that will be the first of its kind to eliminate direct emissions using clean hydrogen. Scheduled for completion by 2030, the project will triple ethylene capacity at Dow’s Alberta site, add thousands of construction jobs, and produce 3.2 million metric tonnes of low-emission products.

Supporter of the Year: Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN)

CRIN, a national non-profit network, was awarded for its role in advancing cleantech in the oil and gas sector. With over 4,300 members—including researchers, innovators, funders, and policymakers—CRIN fosters open innovation and commercialization of clean energy solutions. The organization has funded 42 late-stage projects, with a focus on emissions reduction and carbon capture, and has earned international recognition for its work.

Funder of the Year: Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA)

Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) invests revenue from Alberta’s carbon pricing system to support clean technology projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost the provincial economy. Recent funding includes $55M for 15 projects expected to significantly cut emissions and create jobs, and a $50M Strategic Energy Management for Industry (SEMI) program to enhance energy efficiency in industrial facilities. ERA also invests in water filtration and heavy oil flow technologies, and launched a $50M Industrial Transformation Challenge for significant emissions reduction technologies. Additionally, ERA is committing $34.5M to advance hydrogen projects and $2.8M for a waste-to-energy carbon capture facility study.

“Congratulations to this year’s Alberta Cleantech Award nominees and winners! Your groundbreaking innovations not only lead the path to sustainable economic development but also powerfully represent Alberta’s future-proof economy,” announced Jeanette Jackson, CEO, Foresight Canada.
