Calgary is taking the international stage this week as several of its most promising tech startups head to Paris for Viva Technology (VivaTech), Europe’s largest startup and innovation event.
Thanks to the support of Calgary Economic Development, eight Calgary-based companies are representing the city at a global gathering that draws over 150,000 attendees, including leading investors, corporations, and policy-makers.
This year’s edition of VivaTech highlights Canada as its featured country, placing Calgary’s innovators alongside top national talent and in front of an international audience spanning 91 countries.
The Calgary delegation includes Binoloop, BlueMarvel.AI, Drishya.ai, Micro Engineering Tech Inc. (METI), Motiv Studio, Sylvester.ai, and ZeroKey—startups that exemplify the city’s growing strengths in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and frontier technologies.
“Calgary Economic Development’s support has been instrumental in helping these companies gain international exposure,” said a spokesperson for the delegation. “Participation in events like VivaTech helps position Calgary as a global innovation hub and opens new doors for trade, investment, and talent.”
Each Calgary company brings a distinct innovation to the table:
Binoloop is building AI co-pilots like Tally to streamline government permitting and procurement, cutting manual workloads through automated compliance tools.
BlueMarvel.AI delivers AI-driven optimization software for industrial operations, helping process industries make better, faster decisions.
Drishya.ai is enhancing energy and industrial operations with digital twin technologies and AI, driving decarbonization and efficiency.
Illumia Labs is a dual-use AI-first technology company that provides workforce intelligence, such as skillset matrix analytics via scenario-based competency assessments, supporting SMEs from customer service and hospitality to Aerospace industries.
Micro Engineering Tech Inc. (METI) provides advanced digital transformation solutions using AI, IoT, UAVs, and HD mapping for autonomy, asset management, and real-time data integration across multiple sectors.
Motiv Studio partners with founders to build and scale SaaS and AI startups, offering hands-on support from concept to commercialization.
Sylvester.ai brings AI to animal healthcare, with products like Tably that use facial recognition to detect pain in cats.
ZeroKey provides quantum-precision indoor location systems, revolutionizing tracking and workflow digitization in manufacturing and logistics.
In addition to the Calgary contingent, three other Alberta-based participants have joined the Calgary Economic Development delegation: Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (AMII), LaundryWell, and RUNWITHIT Synthetics.
As Canada’s role takes centre stage at VivaTech, Alberta’s presence—amplified by Calgary Economic Development—highlights the province’s emergence as a serious player on the global tech scene.
