In a Canadian first, Bow Valley Credit Union (BVCU) has unveiled the Bitcoin Gateway—a new platform that enables members to buy Bitcoin directly from their existing credit union accounts.
Launched in partnership with Toronto-based Balance and Calgary’s own Bull Bitcoin, the Bitcoin Gateway provides a seamless and secure way to access the world’s most popular digital asset without needing to navigate complex exchanges or third-party platforms.
The integration allows users to purchase real, insured Bitcoin with just a few clicks, directly from their BVCU accounts. Unlike other crypto products that rely on pooled funds or paper derivatives, BVCU emphasizes that members maintain true ownership of their Bitcoin, which is stored with Balance, Canada’s oldest Bitcoin custodian.

The platform is designed with accessibility in mind, targeting both newcomers to Bitcoin and seasoned investors looking for a simpler, more secure experience. With Bitcoin purchases now available through a trusted Alberta credit union, BVCU is positioning itself at the forefront of digital asset innovation in Canada’s financial services sector.
Calgary-based fintech Bull Bitcoin, a long-standing advocate for Bitcoin self-custody and transparency, called the partnership a “milestone for Bitcoin adoption in Canada.”
The Bitcoin Gateway is available now to all Bow Valley Credit Union members.
