Tech Fest at UCalgary Connects Students with Calgary’s Growing Tech Scene

November 3, 2025 by Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Innovation Week is upon us — and while Platform Calgary remains the central hub, the innovation pulse can be felt across the entire city.

Calgary’s tech sector is booming, and this year’s Innovation Week captures that momentum with a full lineup of events, panels, and showcases celebrating the people, startups, scaleups, and technologies shaping the city’s future.

The week-long celebration offers a front-row seat to Calgary’s entrepreneurial energy — featuring four days of founder stories, job and career opportunities, industry insights, and city-wide events. From downtown to campus, innovation is everywhere.

One of this year’s standout events is Tech Fest, Alberta’s premier tech and innovation-focused career and networking fair.

Sponsored by TC Energy and hosted by the University of Calgary Faculty of Science, Tech Fest will take place on November 6th from 11am to 3pm at MacEwan Hall (424 Collegiate Blvd NW).

The event will bring together over 1,000 UCalgary students and alumni to connect with Alberta’s leading tech and innovation-focused companies — creating opportunities for employers to meet tomorrow’s talent today, from co-op students to full-time hires.

“Tech Fest supports our goal of providing educational experiences that produce inspired and workplace-ready graduates to help drive Alberta’s and Canada’s economy,” says Dr. Pierre Kennepohl, PhD, associate dean of Innovation in the Faculty of Science.

The University of Calgary’s rising reputation in entrepreneurship underscores why events like Tech Fest matter.

The university recently surged 38 places in PitchBook’s 2025 global university rankings of venture-backed founders, cementing its position as one of Canada’s top startup powerhouses.

Since 2014, 189 UCalgary alumni founders have collectively raised $3.4 billion in capital, leading companies such as Dapper Labs, Eavor, Neo Financial, Pairwise, and Expa across sectors from fintech to cleantech.

While Platform Calgary’s events and sessions serve as Innovation Week’s anchor, the energy of Calgary’s innovation ecosystem extends far beyond any single venue. From university campuses and corporate offices to community meetups and local accelerators, the city is buzzing with opportunities to connect, learn, and build.

Together, these gatherings highlight a single message: Calgary’s innovation story isn’t contained to one building — it’s happening everywhere.
