TELUS this month announced the winners of its sixth annual #StandWithOwners contest for small businesses in Canada.
Since 2020, TELUS has invested over $6 million through the #StandWithOwners program, providing funding, technology, and exposure to help businesses thrive in a digital world.
“The thousands of applications we reviewed this year told remarkable stories of businesses that have truly Made It in Canada,” stated Katherine Emberly, President of Small and Medium Business at TELUS.
“It’s the perfect time to highlight our #StandWithOwners winners who embody the spirit of Canadian entrepreneurship while making a meaningful difference in their communities,” Emberly said.
The grand prize winners each receive a $200,000 prize package from TELUS, including $75,000 in direct funding, $80,000 in advertising and business exposure, $35,000 in technology, and $10,000 in TELUS Health wellbeing support.
Among the winners is MDDL, a Calgary-based organization dedicated to accelerating “middle housing” solutions in Alberta and beyond through tools, expert guidance, and other resources for citizens, developers, and municipalities.
“Our goal is to create a connected and transparent middle housing ecosystem and to support the evolution of established neighbourhoods from primarily single-family homes to vibrant, walkable communities with diverse housing options supporting a broader range of Canadians making the places we live more inclusive,” a statement from the Canadian company reads.
Mddl, also a CMHC Level Up Stage 5 Housing Supply Challenge Game-Changer, delivers targeted digital programs such as MDDL Accelerator, University, and Community. Other features include a GIS Lot Identification Tool and Pro Forma Tool.
The startup was founded in 2024 by Alkarim Devani and Darlene Jehn.
TELUS last year revealed it is investing more than $13 billion over five years to expand its network infrastructure and operations across Alberta.
The B.C. firm says it has invested more than $63 billion in Alberta since 2000.
