Alberta is positioning itself at the centre of the global data centre boom — and the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada is leaning in.
The Digital Innovation Forum 2026: Canadian Energy Powering Data Centres will take place Wednesday, March 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Calgary Petroleum Club, bringing together energy leaders, technology innovators, infrastructure developers, and policymakers to explore how Alberta can power the next wave of digital infrastructure growth.
Featured keynote speakers include Alberta’s Minister of Technology and Innovation, Nate Glubish, and Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Canada.
With global demand for data centre capacity expected to triple by 2030 — driven by artificial intelligence computing and digital asset mining — Alberta is emerging as a serious contender in the race to attract hyperscale infrastructure investment. Invest Alberta projects the opportunity could represent between C$75 billion and C$100 billion in economic impact.
The forum will examine Alberta’s evolving data centre strategy, recent updates on Wonder Valley, grid capacity and natural gas supply, siting challenges, blockchain and crypto development, carbon reduction strategies, and broader technology innovation trends.
For Calgary’s growing tech ecosystem, the event reflects a deepening convergence between energy and compute — and a recognition that Alberta’s resource strength could become a defining competitive advantage in the AI era.
