Calgary climatetech startup CURA has been named one of three finalists in Web Summit Vancouver’s PITCH Competition, putting the Alberta company on a global stage alongside startups working in AI-enabled business acquisitions and sports technology.
CURA is developing electrochemical technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cement production, one of the world’s hardest-to-abate industrial sectors.
The company’s CURALYTE™-powered electrolyzer splits limestone into lime and pure CO₂ for storage or use, with the potential to cut emissions by up to 85% while lowering energy use and manufacturing costs.
CURA is also building a 30,000-tonne-per-annum commercial facility expected to come online in 2028, marking a major step toward commercializing its low-carbon cement technology.
The other finalists are DealStack.ai and Vancouver’s Drive Hockey Analytics.
DealStack.ai is building agentic infrastructure for buying and selling small businesses, targeting a market where transactions are often fragmented and manual.
Drive Hockey Analytics uses sensor-powered Smart Arenas to fuel Sports AI, bringing NHL-level coaching and development tools to amateur sports and helping players improve faster through data-driven insights.
