Calgary-based Blackline Safety is seeing strong early adoption of its new G8 connected safety wearable as the company prepares to showcase the technology at the National Safety Council Safety Congress and Expo in Indianapolis.
Unveiled earlier this year and shipping since March, G8 combines connected gas detection, lone-worker protection, two-way push-to-talk communication and live field data in one compact device.
The wearable connects to the Blackline Live platform, giving safety and operations teams real-time visibility into worker locations and conditions across industrial worksites.
“When a worker is in trouble, every second counts,” said Blackline Safety CEO Cody Slater. “G8 ensures you know exactly what’s happening, where that worker is, and how to reach them immediately.”
Blackline says customers are showing particular interest in G8’s built-in push-to-talk capabilities and ZoneAware geofencing, which allows organizations to define worksite zones and monitor worker movement to support emergency response, evacuation and compliance.
The company has also introduced a CSA-certified, low-range hydrogen sensor for North American customers working around the gas.
Among the organizations adopting G8 is European bioenergy producer Vida Bioenergy, which selected the platform to provide gas detection, lone-worker protection and communications for employees and contractors at a new plant.
G8 and Blackline Live have also earned two Occupational Health & Safety Industrial Hygiene Awards and a Safety and Health Excellence Award.
Blackline will demonstrate G8 at the 2026 NSC Safety Congress and Expo from September 14 to 16. The company’s technology is used in more than 75 countries and has generated over 336 billion data points while initiating more than eight million emergency alerts.
