Skip is bringing a giant grocery cart to downtown Calgary as the Canadian-founded delivery platform promotes its expanded grocery and retail offering through a new partnership with Instacart.
Calgary played a role in Skip’s early growth, with co-founder Andrew Chau and his team going door to door to recruit local restaurants. That connection extends into the city’s broader tech community: Skip co-founders Andrew Chau and Jeff Adamson later helped launch Calgary-headquartered Neo Financial.
The oversized cart will appear on Stephen Avenue from October 30 to November 1, giving Calgarians a chance to win $1,500 in groceries by snapping a photo and entering the contest. Albertans outside Calgary can also participate in weekly social media giveaways for a chance to win $300 in groceries.
Behind the promotion is a broader expansion of the two companies’ Canadian delivery businesses.
Announced earlier this month, the partnership gives Skip customers access to Instacart’s grocery and retail marketplace, while Instacart users can order from Skip’s network of more than 50,000 restaurant partners.
Through Skip’s grocery tab, customers can access more than 130 retail banners and 9,000 locations across Canada. Selecting a store redirects customers to Instacart’s platform, where they can browse products and place orders fulfilled by Instacart shoppers. Restaurant orders placed through Instacart are delivered by Skip couriers.
For Skip, the arrangement supports its evolution beyond restaurant delivery into a broader destination for groceries, household essentials, and retail purchases. For Instacart, it adds restaurant selection through an established delivery network.
“This partnership represents a pivotal moment in Skip’s evolution,” said Paul Burns, CEO of Skip, in the announcement.
Calgary is one of two cities, alongside Toronto, hosting the giant-cart campaign. Contest details are available through Skip’s Instagram account.
