When Calgary software developers Florencia Chomski and Ahmad Jamal sat down to map their spending and long-term goals, the exercise exposed a problem they knew how to approach: build a better tool.
The result was Waypoint Budget, a personal finance app developed with Canadian users in mind.
As Calgary.tech reported in March, the founders built the platform during evenings and weekends while maintaining their full-time jobs. At that point, the bootstrapped business had attracted more than 1,000 users, including roughly 150 paying customers.
Jamal focused on the platform’s architecture, while Chomski led design and user experience. Their own experience trying to understand spending informed the product’s emphasis on clarity and practical goals.
Waypoint now offers budgeting, goal tracking and transaction-management tools, with paid plans adding features such as bank synchronization. Its Pro offering includes registered-account tracking for Canadian TFSAs and RRSPs, as well as household budgeting.
Community feedback has helped guide development. In its earlier interview with Calgary.tech, the team described using a feature-request system that lets users suggest and vote on improvements.
The company’s story connects a personal need with a wider product opportunity: helping people see where their money goes and organize it around the goals they want to reach.
Waypoint Budget is among Platform Calgary’s 2026 Launch Party Top 10. Launch Party, presented by Float, takes place November 5 at the Platform Innovation Centre.
