Freshly Funded PK Sound Pioneering Live Audio Experience with Patented Tech Stack

November 13, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

The PK Alliance Centre sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Rockyview.

The centre is a hub for research and development into Canada’s most “future-ready” audio technology.

The hub is powered by PK Sound, a local innovator.

PK is bringing the modern technologies of robotics and intelligence into the traditional field of acoustics.

PK is short for “Polar Kinetic,” which refers to the concept of a loudspeaker’s sound dispersion pattern changing based on its movement, or how the direction of sound waves emitted by a speaker can be dynamically adjusted through physical motion.

The company leverages the “principles of sound field control with advanced mechanical design, intelligent electronics, and next-generation software for high-performance systems.” PK posits that it is pioneering the future of live sound.

The technology is complex, involving robotic actuators, power electronics, inclinometers, specialized transducers, and patented tech such as the firm’s Coherent Midrange Integrator waveguide. Specifically, the waveguide, transducers, actuators, and intelligent system architecture form the “four key technological building blocks make up the foundation of our line source offering.”

Combined, the stack represents “the most advanced technological foundation ever realized in a line source system,” according to the Canadian company.

“As audiences and applications grow more sophisticated, our entire industry needs to adapt to meet those heightened expectations,” PK Sound states. “We strive to develop technologies that will inspire our customers, push them to meet new challenges, and achieve better results.”

These solutions can range from hydraulic seating and orchestra pits to major music festivals such as Coachella.

“Our unmatched control of the sound field ensures artists and engineers can realize their full vision while events can minimize noise complaints and maximize the fan experience,” the company says on its website.

PK Sound recently received $2,282,377 from the federal government to accelerate the manufacturing of its patented robotic audio systems.

The company was established in Alberta in 2009.
