Fillipfleet has won Digital Commerce Bank Calgary’s inaugural Calgary Fintech Awards.
The Calgary-based financial technology startup claims to be the first digital payment platform built for business fleets. Through the Calgary startup’s platform, business owners can empower drivers to pay for fuel and maintenance expenses with a secure digital wallet, spend controls, and real-time transaction notifications.
Chief executive officer Alice Reimer said that her startup’s prize of $250,000 will help fuel growth for the company.
“Growth! Growth, growth, growth,” the impassioned entrepreneur chanted on stage at the awards.
The Alberta fintech has previously raised capital from local investors, including Thin Air Labs and 51 Ventures. The company believes its products and solutions can benefit a range of potential customers, from small businesses to major fuel retailers.
“It’s a complex space with multiple stakeholders,” says Alice Reimer, chief executive officer of Fillip, but she believes the market is underserved.
Fillip intends to remain headquartered in Calgary, where the region’s “innovation ecosystem is one that enables entrepreneurs to start, scale, stay, and succeed,” according to Reimer.
Finalist MIQ—a financial platform that enables cooperatives to pool funds, save, and build credit—won second place, earning $60,000.
