SolarSteam and Summit Nanotech Among Finalists for 2023 Alberta Cleantech Awards

The finalists for the 1st annual Alberta Cleantech Awards have been announced. Chosen from over 50 nominations, these companies and organizations reflect the best of Alberta cleantech.

The Alberta Cleantech Awards ceremony will be a live event this year with finalists and program partners gathering in Calgary on April 27th.

Among the companies nominated in for the Venture of the Year Award are CleanO2 Carbon Capture Technologies, Future Fields, Innervision Wellbore Technologies, SolarSteam, and Summit Nanotech.The venture award will be presented to a cleantech venture positioned to take a leadership role on the global innovation stage. 

SolarSteam and Summit Nanotech were named to the Foresight 50 earlier this year.

SolarSteam is delivering renewable heat to industrial and institutional clients, helping to reduce their costs and emissions and Summit Nanotech has developed a novel sorbent-based direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology, denaLiTM to accelerate the global energy transition.

Nominated for the Funder of the Year Award are ARC Financial, BDC Capital, Emissions Reduction Alberta, NGIF Capital, and Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan). The funder award goes to a funder, investor, government program, or VC championing a net zero economy by investing in cleantech ventures.

Nominated for the Ecosystem Supporter of the Year award are Alberta Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Emissions Reduction Alberta, Energy Futures Lab, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Startup TNT. The ecosystem award goes to an organization championing the growth and development of cleantech in Alberta through the support of climate-focused entrepreneurs, programs, ecosystem development, thought leadership, and community building.

Nominated for the Adopter of the Year award are Cenovus, City of Calgary, Enhance Energy, Smart Sustainable Resilient Infrastructure Association, and TC Energy. This award goes to a leading organization, company, or group adopting or championing sustainable practices in their industry.

Two companies were surprisingly absent from the list of finalists, Carbon Upcycling Technologies and Eavor.

Both companies were named to the prestigious 2023 Global Cleantech 100 list in January.

Carbon Upcycling Technologies is a waste and carbon utilization firm unlocking a new frontier of circular materials. The Calgary-headquartered company has developed technology for sequestering CO2 gas into a solid form within concretes, plastics and coatings.

Eavor (pronounced “Ever”) is a geothermal technology based energy company led by a team dedicated to creating a clean, reliable and affordable energy future on a global scale.
