Collegium Streamlines Real Estate Development Through Digitization, Collaboration

October 26, 2023 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

An Alberta-born technology platform is rendering real estate development a data-driven process in an effort to unite a “fractured industry” through next-generation digital tools.

Calgary-based Collegium brings together architects, engineers, financiers and insurers, and construction and tradesmen on one platform, providing an end-to-end real estate development process.

The Canadian company combines Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things to reimagine building out the nation’s vital infrastructure.

“We bring emergent technologies of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and IoT to a new digital process of Making Buildings that makes traditional design and construction practice obsolete in comparison,” the startup states online.

Named after the Latin word for a society whose members work towards shared interests, Collegium aims at unity and innovation, seeking new and collaborative ways of doing old things.

“We’ve always done it this way” is a dangerous statement, according to the Calgary firm—instead, “we ask: ‘What can we do differently?”‘

Collegium is rethinking how people write contracts, how money and resources can flow faster, how supply chains can be optimized, and how direct and indirect stakeholder interests can be aligned.

So far, Collegium’s tech has made its mark on 12 different developments, valued at a total of more than $300 million and spanning nearly 700,000 square feet combined.

Partners working with Collegium include Edmonton’s Next Architecture and Williams Engineering, Vancouver’s MCW Engineering, and Toronto’s Cetana Group.

Collegium’ was this week named as one of Calgary’s 10 most promising startups ahead of Innovation Week’s signature event, Launch Party powered by Platform Calgary.

The top 10 companies are nominated by the Calgary innovation community and selected by a committee of Launch Party alumni. To be selected, companies must be in operation for less than three years, be revenue positive, and demonstrate potential for growth.

Launch Party will be hosted at the The Big Four Roadhouse on November 23.
