Bōde Garners $1M from Thin Air Labs to Improve Property Selling Process in Canada

May 15, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Bōde has received an investment from Thin Air Labs.

The Calgary-born real estate technology startup announced this week that it has accepted a $1 million investment through the Thin Air Labs Fund I.

The round also involved BDC, Pioneera Ventures, Scalegood Fund, and angel investors, according to a statement from Thin Air.

Launched in 2019 by Robert Price, Lindsay Skabar, and Alan Kelly, Bōde is an online platform for buying and selling property designed to offer a better experience for less money than traditional methods.

The concept was inspired by Price’s experience buying and selling property via “antiquated” methods.

“I found the property I wanted to buy online; I was determining the pricing; I was telling my agent what to say from a negotiation standpoint,” explains Robert. “I felt like my agent was in the way.”

At the end of the process, Price thought to himself that “there has to be a better way.”

“And the agent, who is a good friend of mine, agreed,” the entrepreneur adds.

Now, through Bōde, it’s simpler than ever to list your house for sale, Price posits.

After a quick online form is completed, “We’ll send a professional to your house, they will come back and upload those photos directly into your listing for you, in addition to our QR signage, connecting buyers directly to your listing,” according to the founder.

From there, “You click submit and we’re ready to go live,” he says. “That whole process typically takes under 48 hours.”

Once a listing is live, “we market your property not only on realtor.ca but thousands of other listing sites,” according to Price. “We set you up so buyers can come directly to you through our platform and message, book showings and make offers to maximize your property value.”

Like many startups today, Bōde leverages generative artificial intelligence to provide 24/7 support for clients.

“Our AI, we call ‘Bōdie’, recently got 100% on a sample realtor exam,” says Price. “We are excited about the additional automations, advanced insights, and useful data we can bring to our customers building on the most sophisticated platform in residential real estate.”

Currently active in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario, Bōde has sold 1,500 properties worth $800 million dollars in property value so far.

The company intends to continue to expand across Canada, as well as “targeted states” south of the border.

Homeowners in Canada are “demanding change to the transparency, cost, and integrity of residential real estate transactions at a time where inflation and home affordability are reaching critical levels,” Price asserts. “Our company was founded on solving these fundamental pain points.”

Thin Air Labs launched in Calgary in 2020.
