Premier League Pilots StellarAlgo Platform as Startup Finishes SportsTech Program

August 27, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Earlier this year, 10 companies from around the world secured their spot in the 2024 Class of the Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech Accelerator, a six-month program that provides founders with opportunities to collaborate with leaders from major sports brands such as NASCAR, the Premier League, PGA TOUR, and Olympic sports organizations since launching in 2021.

The chosen 10—selected from over 1,500 applicants across more than 50 countries—included a remarkable four Canadian picks.

One of them, StellarAlgo, is based in Calgary.

StellarAlgo is a data company that helps professional sports teams better understand and predict the spending habits of fans. The firm’s platform unifies fan data from league and team data sources—including venues, e-commerce, social media, and advertising channels—into a single customer view of the fan experience.

After raising a sizeable Series A in 2021, the customer cloud platform targeting the sports industry drew serious interest from the National Basketball Association last year. In addition to the NBA becoming a “meaningful equity holder,” StellarAlgo announced a multi-year, league-wide strategic partnership providing all 30 teams with access to their platform.

Now that the six-month SportsTech Accelerator is wrapping up this week at Rally Innovation in Indianapolis, we decided to take a look at where the Alberta company is at.

As the company graduates from the program, StellarAlgo is running two pilots with the clubs and broadcast partners of the Premier League.

The pilots are leveraging the startup’s technology to help teams develop the most actionable fan insights to drive engagement and revenues.
