BossPac Deploys Sensor Tech to Help Industries Optimize Operations, Reduce Risk

November 7, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

As agriculture equipment ages, two problems emerge: a rising risk of failure and increasing incompatibility with modern technology.

In mining, conveyance systems can be critical to operations, moving heavy loads in remote locations. When they fail, operations grind to a halt.

Calgary’s BossPac Technologies is in the business of solving these types of problems. The Alberta innovator, which began as a packaging company for sunflower seeds, has since evolved into a developer of advanced condition monitoring systems for various sectors, including rail networks, petrochemical production, logistics transportation, shipping and warehousing, construction, power generation, and laboratory facilities.

For example, BossPac’s Rail Sensors can run 24/7 on low power to inform operators when there is broken track. The BossPac Rail Integrity Management provides real-time monitoring of thousands of sensors, equipping users with tools to “make game-changing decisions faster, optimize performance, and avoid catastrophic incidences.”

The Canadian firm also offers technologies called WaspNEST and MobiNEST, which are ideal for operations such as wind turbine farms, which have many possible parts capable of failure, but are often designed with minimal access to compartments for maintenance.

The usefulness of BossPac’s tech offerings is reflected in the rapid growth of the company. From 2020 through 2023, the firm’s revenue exploded by over 700%.

That growth earned BossPac a slot on Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50, which this month recognized the achievements of the best in tech companies across Canada for the 27th year.

“The winners of this year’s program exemplify the strength and resilience of Canada’s business landscape, showcasing their ability to navigate challenges and drive exceptional growth amid economic uncertainties and technological disruptions,” stated Anders McKenzie, national leader for the Technology Fast 50 program at Deloitte Canada.

“These remarkable companies have positioned themselves as growth leaders in their respective sectors, paving the way as catalysts and setting new benchmarks for success,” McKenzie continued. “We are proud to celebrate their achievements and recognize them as the driving force behind the country’s technological advancement and economic prosperity.”

Several other local companies cracked the list, including Calgary fintech Neo Financial and PurposeMed, who claimed the top and second spot.
