Alberta’s Women Entrepreneurs Raised $116M in 2024

Female entrepreneurs in Alberta helped garner $116 million in capital for their companies through 2024. Calgary.tech has covered the vast majority of their origin stories in the past.

Honouring March’s International Women’s Day, Start Alberta used its Deal Flow data platform to segment fundraising in 2024 to reveal that women founders and co-founders captured $116 million across 14 funding rounds, all of which deserve a closer look.

Artificial.Agency’s Co-Founder Alex Kearney raised US$16 million in seed funding for this startup in the AI gaming space.

Ayrton Energy’s Co-Founder and CEO Natasha Kostenuk raised US$6.8 million in seed financing for the company, a pioneer in liquid organic hydrogen carrier technology.

Bōde Canada Co-Founder Lindsay Skabar helped secure $4 million in seed funding for the startup, an online platform for buying and selling property designed to offer a better experience for less money than traditional methods.

CO2Brew Co-Founder and COO Karen Ngo secured $800,000 in seed capital for the startup which is looking to transform the brewing industry by unlocking cost and emission reductions while bolstering supply chain resiliency and accessing new revenue streams.

CruxOCM Co-Founder and CEO Vicki Knott helped garner $17 million in funding for the company whose mission is to empower control room operators and ensure the safe operation of essential energy infrastructure.

FLORA Fertility Co-Founder and CEO Laura McDonald and Co-Founder and President Christy Lane raised a $1.5 million seed round. 

Nimble Science Co-Founder and CEO Sabina Bruehlmann raised a seed round for its flagship product, the Small Intestine MicroBiome Aspiration Capsule, a pioneering ingestible capsule that provides a non-invasive means of sampling the gut microbiome.

Orpyx Medical Technologies Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Breanne Everett garnered a US$20 million growth equity round for Orpyx, a provider of diabetic foot ulcer and amputation prevention solutions.

PayShepherd Co-Founder Jenn Hunter raised a $7 million seed round for the financial technology innovator.

RetinaLogik Co-Founder and CEO Julia St. Amand raised a seed round that was recently followed up on for the health-tech company using AI and VR for eye care.

RUNWITHIT Synethics‘ Co-Founder and CEO Myrna Bittner raised US$3.5 million.

Syantra Co-Founder and CSO Dr. Kristina Rinker secured a $4.9 million Series A for the health-tech upstart.

Sylvester.ai Founder and CEO Susan Groeneveld raised $1 million for the startup operating in the global pet tech platform space.

Wyvern’s Co-Founder and Verification & Validation Lead Callie Lissinna and Co-Founder and VP of R&D Kristen Cote raised a US$6 million seed round for the company that taps satellites and hyperspectral tech to generate data that “reveals the hidden reality of planet Earth.”
