Carbon Upcycling Raises $26 Million to Scale Low-Carbon Construction Tech

June 18, 2025 by Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Calgary-based Carbon Upcycling has secured $26.6 million in fresh funding to accelerate the deployment of its carbon capture and utilization technology, marking a major milestone in the company’s bid to decarbonize the construction industry.

The funding round was led by Builders Vision, a mission-driven investment firm focused on sustainable innovation, with continued backing from returning investors including the Business Development Bank of Canada, Climate Investment, Amplify Capital, CRH Ventures, Oxy Low Carbon Ventures, and TITAN Group.

“This is a strong signal that the market is ready for scalable, science-based solutions like Carbon Upcycling,” said Apoorv Sinha, CEO of Carbon Upcycling. “We are setting the foundation for low-carbon construction — demonstrating that it is not just possible, but practical, profitable, and available today.”

Carbon Upcycling’s proprietary technology transforms industrial CO2 emissions and low-value local materials into high-performance supplementary cementitious products. By replacing a portion of traditional cement inputs, the company’s solution reduces emissions and strengthens supply chain resilience — a growing priority in global construction.

The company is currently developing a flagship carbon capture and utilization project at Ash Grove’s Mississauga cement plant and recently signed an agreement with TITAN Group to explore opportunities at two of its facilities.

“Carbon Upcycling is redefining what’s possible in industrial decarbonization by turning waste and emissions into valuable, scalable materials,” said James Lindsay, Investment Director at Builders Vision. “Their technology is widely applicable to a number of local feedstocks and quickly integrates onsite to existing production facilities — and that’s what the market needs.”

With this investment, Carbon Upcycling is poised to lead the next era of low-carbon innovation in construction, advancing a clean, localized supply chain for building tomorrow’s infrastructure.

Last year Carbon Upcycling delivered 200 tonnes of CO2-enhanced fly ash to BURNCO Rock Products as part of a ground-breaking initiative to deploy low-carbon concrete in the City of Calgary. BURNCO is a long-time Calgary-based aggregate construction materials company which looks to advance sustainable business practices throughout its operations.
