John Redfern is stepping down as chief executive officer of Eavor Technologies for “personal reasons,” the Calgary-based geothermal technology company upstart recently revealed.
Redfern, a cofounder of the Canadian cleantech, will continue his association with the company in a strategic advisory role, according to a statement from Eavor, whose flagship solution, the Eavor-Loop, offers a novel scalable geothermal energy system.
Geothermal energy was formerly restricted to locations with unique underground reservoirs of hot water, but not anymore. A new generation of startups leveraging advanced drilling technologies can tap into the Earth’s molten heat to generate power in more places than ever before.
As CEO of Eavor, Redfern led his company for nearly a decade from inception through 2025. This included Eavor’s flagship product launch as well as sizeable rounds of fundraising, including $138 million from Canada Growth Fund just one month ago.
“We are grateful for John’s leadership and dedication to Eavor,” stated Doug Beach, Chair of the Board. “John’s vision has been instrumental in driving our success, and we are pleased he will continue his work with us in an advisory role.”
In the interim, company cofounder Robert Winsloe will assume the role of CEO of Eavor while the Alberta firm searches for a permanent successor.
“As we begin the search for our next CEO, we are confident that Robert will provide the requisite leadership and stability,” said Beach.
Winsloe thanks Redfern for his “visionary leadership and dedication to Eavor.”
Moving forward, “It’s an exciting time to step into the role and lead our incredibly talented team,” he said, “as we continue to focus on our long-held mission of making geothermal power development possible at scale, everywhere.”
Founded in 2017, Eavor Technologies last year made the Global Cleantech 100 list.
