Calgary-based Ontopical has been acquired by SOVRA, North America’s leading public sector procurement platform, in a move that underscores the growing role of Alberta startups in shaping the continent’s GovTech landscape.
Ontopical, an AI-driven government intelligence platform, helps suppliers identify early-stage opportunities before formal requests for proposals are issued.
Its proprietary AI, “Oliver,” scans more than 65,000 public data sources to deliver pre-RFP insights—capabilities that will now serve as the foundation for SOVRA’s new AI Center of Excellence. The initiative aims to accelerate the development of intelligent features and automation across SOVRA’s platform for both suppliers and public sector buyers.
“We’ve built something powerful, and now we get to scale it faster than ever,” said Ontopical CEO Clayton Feick, who will assume the role of President of SOVRA Supplier.
Ontopical founder Derrick Koenig will lead the Supplier product team. “Joining SOVRA gives us the reach, resources, and platform to help thousands more businesses gain an advantage by connecting with public sector demand, early and effectively.”
Ontopical was founded in 2017 and formerly known as BoxOfDocs.
