Last week Calgary’s Ava Industries was named a Company-to-Watch on Deloitte’s 2025 Technology Fast 50 rankings. The physician-founded startup reported a two-year revenue growth rate of 364%, marking a milestone for one of Canada’s most innovative healthtech companies.
Ava began in 2016 when two Calgary physicians — Dr. Mike Forseth and Dr. Matt Henschke — set out to make technology work better for care teams. What started in a single clinic has since grown into a platform trusted by more than 7,500 healthcare professionals across 300 clinics, managing over six million patient charts and supporting care for millions of Canadians each year.
Built and programmed by practicing doctors, Ava’s all-in-one electronic medical record (EMR) unites charting, billing, communication, and AI-powered workflows into one intuitive interface.
Ava’s AI Suite takes healthcare AI beyond medical scribes and into the next generation of care. Among the first EMRs in Canada with a built-in AI scribe, Ava now leads with tools like Ava Scribe for real-time charting, an Enhanced Document Classifier for seamless filing, and AI Patient Care Plans that turn notes into personalized follow-up plans. With more innovations like AutoChart coming soon, Ava helps clinicians spend less time on screens and more time with patients.
The company’s impressive growth reflects a growing need for digital tools that reduce burnout in a strained healthcare system. “Every hour we save for a clinician means more time for patients, and a small but meaningful step toward a stronger health system overall,” said Forseth.
In addition to the Fast 50 recognition, Ava has reached the national stage and is working with government partners and clinical teams on projects that advance the next generation of healthcare technology in Canada. Next month, they’ll be presenting at the Federal Canadian Health Infoway Partnership Conference and the Canada HealthTech Innovation Symposium, sharing how collaboration between vendors, clinicians, and public partners is driving real change in Canadian healthcare.
